Mi-BEAM Series — Modular Bidirectional DC Power System (12 kW – 1.2 MW)
The Sorensen Mi-BEAM Series is a high-performance, air-cooled bidirectional regenerative DC power system covering 12.5 kW to 37.5 kW per 4U chassis, scalable in parallel to 1.2 MW. Available in 600 V, 1,500 V and 2,000 V output voltage ranges with industry-leading power density (up to 9.25 kW/U). Winner of the AMETEK Innovation Award 2025.

The Mi-BEAM Series was created for the growing demands of EV, energy storage and renewable energy testing. In battery cycling mode, the Mi-BEAM charges and discharges a battery or pack under precisely controlled current, voltage and power profiles. In battery simulation mode, it emulates the electrical behaviour of a battery — including programmable internal resistance — without a physical battery present. The PV simulation mode uses programmable I-V curves to replicate solar panel characteristics for inverter MPPT testing. Regenerative operation returns absorbed energy to the AC mains, making continuous high-power cycling economically practical. The 2,000 V models address high-voltage EV and stationary storage systems.
