MX Series RF Matrix Systems

MTS Systemtechnik

Key Features

  • Semiconductor matrices: no contact wear, no calibration required, very high isolation, compact (e.g. 1024 nodes in a 9U rack unit)
  • Electromechanical matrices: higher power handling, up to 1000 W CW, and excellent insertion loss, at the cost of relay wear over the relay’s rated lifetime
  • Blocking or non-blocking (full fan-in/full fan-out) topologies available
  • Remote control via LAN, USB or RS-232; optional touch-panel display for manual operation
  • Passive, unpowered full fan-out matrix option, plus a dedicated semiconductor switching matrix variant, for setups that don’t need active gain or additional isolation stages

MX Series RF Matrix Systems

MX RF matrix systems route RF signals between test equipment, such as generators, amplifiers and antennas, on a full fan-in/fan-out basis, automating what would otherwise be a manual RF patch panel. MTS offers both a semiconductor-switched version, for high isolation and a compact footprint, and an electromechanical version, for higher power handling.

Who Is the MX Series For?

EMC and RF test laboratories that need to share generators, amplifiers or antennas across multiple test benches or shielded chambers without manual re-cabling.

Available Models & Accessories

The semiconductor range, MX-8/4-HLS-FFO-6G and MX-20/4-HLS-FFO-6G, suits high-isolation, compact, lower-power applications. The electromechanical range, MX-6/8-N-50 and the MX-3/6/3-MASTER paired with MX-2x6/3-SLAVE, suits higher-power setups. MX-8/8-FFO-6G and the MX-8X2/2+2X8/8-6G semiconductor switching matrix add further 8-port fan-out options, and the passive full fan-out matrices (unpowered, 0.5-6 GHz) cover setups that don't need an active switching stage. Other port counts and topologies are configured per application.

Digitises the RF patch panel.

Semiconductor matrices such as MX-8/4-HLS-FFO-6G and MX-20/4-HLS-FFO-6G replace manual patch-cabling with remote-controlled, wear-free switching up to 6000 MHz.

No calibration, no contact wear.

Solid-state switching avoids the connector wear, cable fatigue and contact-resistance drift that mechanical patch fields accumulate over time.

Electromechanical option for high power.

MX-6/8-N-50 and the MX-3/6/3-MASTER / MX-2x6/3-SLAVE system handle up to 1000 W CW with minimum 110 dB isolation, for setups semiconductor switches can't carry.

Built-in safety interlocking for shared amplifiers.

The MX-3/6/3-MASTER / MX-2x6/3-SLAVE system grounds an amplifier's output to a 50 ohm termination whenever its shielded chamber door is open, independent of firmware.
